HAIL REPAIR — QUESTIONS

Hail Damage Repair Questions

Straight answers about hail repair — what insurance covers, how long the work takes, what paintless dent repair can and cannot fix, and what happens if a claim comes back short or denied.

How much does hail damage repair cost?

For most drivers with comprehensive coverage, hail damage repair is paid by the insurance claim rather than out of pocket. The size of the claim itself depends on three things: how many dents there are, which panels they landed on, and whether the paint is intact.

Does insurance cover hail damage?

Comprehensive coverage pays for hail damage. Liability and collision coverage do not. If comprehensive is on your policy, hail is one of the specific events it exists to cover.

Will my insurance rates go up after a hail claim?

No. A comprehensive claim for hail damage does not raise your rates. Hail is treated as an act of God rather than an at-fault incident, so it is not counted against you the way a collision claim is.

What should I do right after a hailstorm?

Photograph the car in daylight before you move it, note the date and time of the storm, and get the damage documented properly. Do not accept a verbal write-off from anyone standing in a parking lot — hail damage is assessed panel by panel, not at a glance.

How long does hail damage repair take?

Two days for most vehicles. Light damage is finished in a single day, and heavy damage runs to three days at most. Body shops that repaint panels typically quote two to four weeks for the same car.

What is the difference between PDR and a body shop repair?

Paintless dent repair reshapes the original metal and keeps the factory paint. A traditional body shop repair sands the panel, fills it, and repaints it. For hail, PDR is both faster and better for the value of the car, because a repainted panel is permanent on the vehicle history.

Can every dent be fixed without painting?

Most hail dents can, but not all. Paintless dent repair works when the paint is unbroken and the metal has been stretched rather than torn. Where the paint has cracked or a panel is creased sharply, that panel needs touch-up or replacement instead.

Can you repair aluminum panels and Teslas?

Yes. Aluminium panels and electric vehicles including Tesla are repaired paintlessly, but they take longer than steel and need a technician who works on them regularly. We repair Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X, Rivian R1T and R1S, and the Ford F-150 Lightning, alongside conventional vehicles.

Will hail repair show up on Carfax?

A comprehensive insurance claim can appear on a vehicle history report, because insurers and repair facilities report claim activity. What paintless dent repair avoids is the separate, permanent record of refinished panels that a repaint leaves on the car itself.

Does hail damage lower my car's value?

Unrepaired hail damage lowers value substantially — it is visible on every panel and it is the first thing a buyer or appraiser sees. A properly repaired car loses far less, and how much less depends on whether the panels were repainted or repaired paintlessly.

What if the insurance estimate is too low?

A low estimate is usually an incomplete one rather than a dispute. Hail dents are easy to miss without controlled lighting, and a supplement with proper documentation is a normal part of the process — not a fight.

What if my hail claim is denied?

We appeal it. Our appeal success rate is 94%, and if the claim is still denied after the appeal, you owe us nothing for the work we put into it.

Do I have to use the shop my insurance recommends?

No. You choose who repairs your vehicle. An insurer can recommend a shop from its network, and often will, but the decision is yours and the claim is paid either way.

Do I keep the rental car if the repair takes longer?

The rental covers the time your vehicle is with us. Most hail repairs are finished in two days, and heavy damage runs to three at most, so the rental period is short and predictable by design.

Should I repair old hail damage before filing a new claim?

Get it documented first, then decide. Existing unrepaired damage is the most common reason a new hail claim comes back short or denied, because the adjuster cannot separate the old dents from the new ones.
