Aluminum panels, steel structure

Since the 991-generation 911, the doors, hood and front fenders are aluminum, with a steel roof and floor underneath; the Cayenne uses the same aluminum-over-steel split. Aluminum resists being moved and needs the slower, heat-controlled pass described on our aluminum and EV page — rushing it work-hardens the panel and is not something we do on a car in this price range.

A repainted panel is the fastest way to lose value on a collector or high-value car — paint thickness gauges and color match issues are exactly what a buyer or appraiser checks first. Paintless repair leaves nothing to find, which is why it is the standard method on cars in this range, not just an option.
